Latent Acid Catalyst for enhanced productivity in Abrasives Manufacturing

A coated abrasive comprises an abrasive fixed to a backing material such as paper, cloth or even metal, many of which are flexible. Sandpaper is a very common coated abrasive. A bonding agent (often an adhesive or resin) is applied to the backing to provide a flat surface to which the grit subsequently adheres. CSR-enabled resin can be added to the “make” coat and the “size” coat to give additional benefits to the manufacturing processes involved in the production of coated abrasives.

Some of the benefits gained from using CSR within coated abrasive:

  • Increased line speed
  • Reduced process costs
  • Lower operating temperatures
  • User control on cure cycle

This is a simple graphic showing the abrasive process with specific areas where CSR is added.
